HOW TO LOVE THE BIBLE

There are two main ways to approach the Bible. The first is our understanding of the nature and origin of the Bible. This opens up such topics as the inspiration, inerrancy, and infallibility of the Bible. And the second is to understand how to approach the Bible, how to read it, how to understand its language, and how to delve into the pages of this multifaceted book. All of this is part of the science of biblical interpretation. 2 Peter 1:10 forbids us from interpreting the Bible as we please. Therefore, we need reliable principles when interpreting the Bible. These are the questions that my friend Dr. Richard Mayhew addresses in his wonderful little book. This book is not a heavy theological work for scholars. It is intended for all Christians who are serious about the study and accurate interpretation of the Bible. It helps us to fulfill the mission of 2 Timothy. The command in 2:15: “Do your best to present yourself approved to God, a workman who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

The modern Christian church is in great need of guidance from such a book. It will also be valuable to Christians at all stages of their lives. This book is the work of a capable scholar, an experienced pastor, and a gifted Christian. I heartily recommend reading it.
